Alex Easton the Member of Parliament for North Down in Northern Ireland, has recently pledged his support for a public inquiry into the issues raised. He has also written to the Prime Minister raising his concerns regarding the allegations, in light of what he describes as the “substantial evidence” available. In his letter, he significantly has urged the Prime Minister to provide a clear response to the following questions:
1. Has a full investigation been conducted into the allegations raised by Mr. Barnett and the Safer Schools campaign?
2. Will the government commit to a Public Inquiry to address these systemic failures and prevent further harm to children?
Alex Easton concluded his letter by stating “The gravity of these allegations and the continued risk to children necessitate a thorough and independent investigation. I join Mr. Barnett and the families in calling for the establishment of an Independent Statutory Public Inquiry to examine these claims and the systemic failures that have allowed such tragedies to persist.”
Alex Easton has also tabled a question in Parliament in relation to the alleged failures of the Department for Education to investigate the issues, which will eventually be published and made available on public record.
